Things I’m watching, reading, listening to and more this month!

WHAT I’M WATCHING: Vegan Bodega Cat

Rebecca Doudak, aka Vegan Bodega Cat, is a “NYC native trying to live life loving animals, uplifting people, and eating good food”. You can watch her do all three on her YouTube channel, where she uploads a new video multiple times a week. You can watch everything from food tours to reviews, showing that you don’t have to sacrifice yummy food to be compassionate! I love her videos because they are honest, energetic, and so fun!

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: LIZZO CUZ I LOVE YOU

I know this might seem like I’m late to hop on the bandwagon, but really I’ve been playing this album non-stop since it debuted in April. It’s THAT GOOD. Since then, Lizzo has made appearances with a Sister Act inspired performance on the MTV Awards, a Rihanna approved performance at the BET Awards, and even NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. You can catch Lizzo in her big screen debut alongside Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B in Hustlers, coming out in September.

Listen to Cuz I Love You here.

WHO I’M FOLLOWING: PLANET ROLLER SKATE

Planet Roller Skate is a multi-media website focused on roller skating culture. Since listening to Lizzo’s “Juice” (see above), I’ve had dreams of skating around a neon pink roller rink with a shimmering disco ball floating overhead. All of my dreams came true when I stumbled upon a pair of roller skates at my local thrift store— and were quickly halted when I realized I actually can’t skate at all.

Queue Indy Jamma Jones, Pigeon, and the women of Planet Roller Skate, who post videos of roller skating tips, tricks, and inspiration to help you realize all of your roller disco dreams.

WHERE I’M SHOPPING: BOOKS KINOKUNIYA

Not gonna lie, I haven’t had as much time to sit and read this month as I would like, but that hasn’t stopped me from perusing Books Kinokuniya, a cult-favorite Japanese bookstore in Austin. Headquartered in Japan, Kinokuniya boasts a wide selection of Japanese- and English-language books, ranging from manga to art to fashion. They’re especially known for their wide variety of stationery and other merchandise from Japan, including exclusive collaboration items with popular Japanese brands.

Books Kinokuniya was featured in my first YouTube video! You can subscribe here.
